Paul Azinger

Paul Azinger was born in 1960 in Holyoke, Massachusetts. Paul started playing golf at age 5, but could not break 40 until he was a high school senior. Today he continues as a recognizable face on the PGA tour and in the fight against cancer.

Paul Azinger attended Florida State University and turned professional in 1981. He won eleven tournaments on the PGA Tour in seven seasons from 1987 to 1993, climaxing in his one major title, the 1993 PGA Championship.

The happiness in his world came crashing down in 1994 when he was diagnosed with lymphoma (a form of cancer) in right shoulder blade. With his family's support and great medical care, Paul overcame his biggest challenge, a deadly disease.

Paul wrote a book called "Zinger" about his battle with the disease and was the recipient of GWAA Ben Hogan Award in 1995, given to the individual who has continued to be active in golf despite physical handicap or serious illness. In 2000, he won his first tournament for seven seasons at the Sony Open in Hawaii.
