Success under pressure defined Bonnie Blair’s career as a speed skater. A five-time gold medalist, Blair is widely recognized as one of the greatest athletes in Olympic history. Bonnie began her ascent to the top of the speed skating world in the 500-meter event at the 1988 Calgary Olympics, setting a new world record that stood until she bested her own time five years later. In 1994 Blair skated in her final Winter Olympics in Lillehammer, Norway. She swept the sprint races, becoming the first woman to win three consecutive 500-meter events and taking sole possession of the record for most gold medals won by an American woman in any sport. Blair is widely admired for her combination of modesty and confidence. Despite her unparalleled success, she remains personable and level headed. Bonnie cherishes her role as a panelist on the McDonald’s Global Moms Advisory Panel, where she helps improve McDonald’s initiatives for moms and children worldwide. Blair is a member of the USOC Olympic Hall of Fame, and was named one of the Century’s Five Best Female Athletes by Sports Magazine, 1994 Sportswoman of the Year by Sports Illustrated, and won the 2000 ESPY Award for American Female Olympian.
