Ron Jaworski Flash Video

After a 17 year distinguished career as a Quarterback in the NFL, today Ron Jaworski is coaching football fans on TV as the color commentator on ESPN’s Monday Night Football. Jaworski joined Mike Tirico and Tony Kornheiser on the Monday Night Football crew in 2007. ESPN’S Mike Tirico said, “If you made a list of 10 guys on TV in any sport as an analyst who you'd want to have a beverage with and watch a game, he's [Ron Jaworski] high on that list." In addition to Monday Night Football, Jaworski breaks down the X’s and O’s of NFL games on the NFL Match-Up Show (ESPN), with Merril Hoge and Sal Paolantonio.

The Rams, drafted Jaworski in the second round of the 1973 NFL draft. After spending four years with the Rams, Jaworski joined the Philadelphia Eagles in March of 1977. Under head coach Dick Vermeil and behind Jaworski’s ability and field leadership, the Eagles advanced their first-ever berth in a Super Bowl . Jaworski finished the 1980 season as the No. 1-rated passer in the NFC and was the 1980 NFL MVP.

Along the way, Ron became known as Jaws. The name was hung on him by his next-door neighbor at the time, Doug Collins, who was a star guard for the Philadelphia 76ers, and would later be an NBA coach and television analyst. "He didn't come up with Jaws because of that shark movie, though." Jaws says," Doug said it was because my mouth was always open, talking."

Until the time Ron suffered a broken leg at St. Louis during the 13th game of the 1984 season, he had started 116 straight NFL games, a record for most consecutive starts. Jaws held that record until 1999, when Brett Farve broke it. During his 10 years with the Eagles, Jaworski led the Eagles to the NFC play-offs four times. He is the all-time Eagle leader in many passing categories, including career touchdowns and career passing yardage.

Jaworski played for the Miami Dolphins in 1987 and 1988; and in 1989, signed as a free agent with the Kansas City Chiefs. Ron retired in 1990 after sustaining a season-ending knee injury. In his first year of eligibility, Jaworski was nominated on the first ballot to the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Today, Jaworski lives in Southern New Jersey and is civically active. Jaworski is committed to the Jaws Youth Fund, a partnership between the Jaworski family and United Way of Camden County. The Ron Jaworski Celebrity Golf Challenge in Atlantic City is one of the prominent fund raisers for The Jaws Youth Fund. To date, the Jaworski family is proud to have donated almost 3 million dollars to at risk youth. “Ron Loves Golf as much as he Loves Football.” Ron currently owns/manages 5 golf courses in South Jersey and Pennsylvania. Playing the game and operating the golf courses is a big part of Ron’s life. Ron also owns an exclusive business development company called Business Clubs America. The South Jersey Chamber of Commerce awarded Jaworski the Pinnacle Award for his outstanding volunteer work and longtime service to South Jersey Chamber as well as the business community. The United Way honored Jaworski with their Volunteer Leadership Award, the highest award given by United Way.
