Daniel Shapiro is a speaker who specializes in speaking for groups of health professionals, patient organizations and hospital systems offering programs for patients. Shapiro is a clinical psychologist and an associate professor of clinical psychiatry in the college of medicine at the University of Arizona. His most common talk is titled, "A Funny Thing Happened on My Way to Chemotherapy," a 1-act play constructed of 8 essays from his first book. In feedback forms, patients often respond that they found the talk hopeful, funny and energizing. His second talk is titled, "The Psychology of Medical Mistakes" and is for physicians and nurses.

Dr. Shapiro earned his Ph.D. at the University of Florida and went on to Harvard Medical School where he completed an internship at McLean Hospital and an endowed fellowship in medical crisis counseling at Boston Children's Hospital, the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, and the Brigham and Women's Hospital. His first book, "Moms Marijuana," about his personal cancer experience has been translated into Dutch, Portuguese, Spanish and Italian. His second book, "Delivering Doctor Amelia," focuses on his psychological treatment of a physician.

As a result of expertise as someone who has lived on "both sides of the bed," Daniel Shapiro has been featured on many television programs and in a number of other periodicals.
